You may have noted that I’ve added a new link on my genealogy sidebar. In truth, I can’t believe I haven’t added this before now, for it’s really the mother of all genealogy sites.
Established and maintained by the Church of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), it is probably the largest database in the world, and appears to be free to use. I was recently searching ancestors in northern England, and a gentleman there found some of what I was looking for on the IGI.
It does require you to set up an account, and the site can be quite intricate by the looks of it.
