On April 12, 2026, the Outlook Arts and Culture Council hosted the Danish husband and wife duo of Maren Hallberg and Jorgen Dickmeiss. (apologies for not getting the little line through the ‘o’. I’m not sure how to do that)
The evening was very much like the passing of two ships in the night. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Saskatchewan people to experience and learn about Danish culture, geography and language, and for the Danish entertainers to experience just one more little prairie community of the fifteen they will visit on their tour.
Stories of their professional life on the world stage led into the next set of songs and the evening flowed beautifully. We were indeed privileged to interact with such superb musicians (and wonderful people) in an intimate setting like the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Their eleven year old son, Osvald, played a tune with them as well. Take a look at the (appropriate) pride on Mom and Dad’s face!

Jorgen is a multi-instrumentalist, playing violin, mandolin and guitar, and has a beautiful singing voice. It is obvious that through their many years of playing together, Maren has learned to complement him in both texture and volume. Some of their own compositions were mixed with traditional tunes. Of course, the evening ended with this rousing crowd-pleaser.
Many thanks to Svobsk and to the Outlook Arts Council. It was an evening to remember!

I can’t imagine how grueling it must be to travel and do all those performances. There’s no place like home, and I’ll bet Osvald is looking forward to being there. Your show will be long remembered, and I hope we meet again sometime. All the best to you, Maren and Osvald, and safe travels.
